At the Sea Meadow Inn, food plays a central role in the daily life of many of our guests. As they eat one meal, they are already thinking about and planning the next one, looking for interesting flavors, memorable experiences, and surprising combinations. If this sounds like you, check out this list of some of our favorite foodie fixes! A mix of restaurants, farm stands, local producers, and small shops; each one has something very special to offer. While some are as close as a 3-minute walk (Cook Shop!), all of them are no more than a 25-minute drive away.
Chatham Bars Inn Farm (3034 Main St, Brewster) - The farm that supplies Chatham Bars Inn also boasts a beautiful farm stand that stocks a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, gorgeous bouquets, locally-produced delicacies such as honey, bread, cheese and baked goodies, and nursery plants. During the summer season, they also offer occasional farm-to-table 4 course dinners at outdoor tables within the farm.
The Pie Stand (403 Main St, Dennis) (802) 279-2059) - Quite simply, Becky and her family make The Best Pies you will ever eat. Operated out of their home Thursday - Sunday in the summer, they offer an extensive list of flavors, all of which are spectacular and come still-warm and wrapped in newspaper. We celebrated the 4th of July this year with Pies on the Porch, which featured a taste test of their most popular flavors: Apple, Peach, Cherry, Blueberry, Pear Ginger, Strawberry Rhubarb. Care to guess which one came out on top?
Tip: Order your favorite in advance by phone and pick up at 1pm or show up at noon to choose from their flavors of the day.
Bonus Tip! Buy their cookies as well. Only sold as an add-on to the pies, these enormous cookies are also spectacular.
Cape Abilities Farm Market (458 Main St, Dennis) - Now celebrating their 20th anniversary, this unique farm supports people with disabilities by helping them build skills, have meaningful employment, and participate in the community. Their market has a wide assortment of fruits and vegetables harvested from their farm and nearby partner farms, as well as pantry staples such as pastas and baking mixes to provide everything you need for a memorable meal. Their nursery also offers a wide variety of annuals and perennials, and a small shop has decor items.
Bartletts Farm Stand (2199 Main St, West Barnstable) - One of the only certified-organic farms on Cape Cod, this is an extension of the Bartlett Farm which started on Nantucket in 1843 and is now owned by the 8th generation of the family! The farmstand has seasonal produce from the farm as well as flowers and locally-sourced pantry items.
Gustare Gourmet (400 Main St, Chatham) - Husband and wife Dave and Catherine run this shop of carefully selected, high quality olive oils, balsamic vinegars, pantry spices and other gourmet staples. Stop by the shop to browse the many available flavors or purchase one of their gorgeous gift baskets.
Tip: parking is available behind the shop if you’re having a hard time finding a spot on the street.
Main Street Wine & Gourmet (42 Main St, Orleans) - Caitlin and Ryan stock an excellent selection of fine wines, spirits, cheeses, crackers, charcuterie and other delicacies as well as beautiful table linens and dishware. Their knowledgeable and friendly staff can always help you find what you’re looking for, as well as leading Saturday-evening tastings.
ACK Gioia (302 Underpass Rd, Brewster) - Fresh, homemade focaccia, mozzarella, burrata, stracciatella, sourdough ciabatta…Need I go on? Mother-daughter duo Elisabeth and Alexandra make it all fresh on-site. You can buy their irresistible cheese and bread to go, or order delicious sandwiches to eat on their patio or take as a picnic lunch for the beach or Rail Trail, which runs just behind the shop.
Tip: If you’re interested in fresh bread for dinner, go early in the day, as they often run out and you don’t want to be left empty-handed.
Ring Bros Marketplace (485 Route 134, South Dennis) - This locally-owned market offers almost everything you need from a grocery store, with a twist - they bring together local food vendors to curate the best-possible selection. From their deli and bakery to flowers and sushi, you’ll only find the freshest, highest-quality items.
Tip: Hissho Sushi makes rolls, sashimi and spring rolls fresh on-site daily. Great option for a picnic lunch!
Cook Shop (1091 Main St, Brewster) - Located in the Lemon Tree Village, the family-owned Cook Shop packs a punch. They stock a huge variety of specialty food items from local chocolates and jams to hard-to-find Asian ingredients, as well as hundreds of teas and an impressive assortment of well-curated cooking implements. Don’t miss the second floor, which has larger cooking items including pots, small appliances and kitchen linens.
Tip: many of the items we use at Sea Meadow Inn, including our popular teapot-shaped teabag holders, and individual sugar-pots and creamers are available at the shop.
